Machine Gun Kelly was inspired by a sea urchin for his AMAs outfit
Machine Gun Kelly nailed his look for the American Music Awards.
The rapper showed up to the awards show on Sunday night rocking an ultra-edgy suit covered in spikes, and he certainly turned heads on the red carpet.
The bright purple suit was decorated with long, sharp spikes from his shoulders to his ankles and even on his back. The 32-year-old added extra punk appeal with a pair of black studded boots and wore his blond locks in tousled waves.
The sharp suit was undeniably a bold fashion choice, and it made us wonder: Was the rapper even able to sit down while wearing it? We’re not sure how comfortable he was while doing so, but he did pose for a photo sitting down with singer Lionel Richie.
Machine Gun Kelly playfully hinted at his sartorial inspiration for the look on his Instagram page, posting a split photo of himself in the suit beside a photo of a purple sea urchin.
“Do you guys sea what I was goin for” he captioned the post.
It was an exciting night for the musician, who ended up taking home the award for “favorite rock artist.” While accepting the honor, he joked about his edgy ensemble, saying, “This suit is really uncomfortable to pee in.”
Of course, Machine Gun Kelly is no stranger to bold fashion choices, often matching fiancé Megan Fox in eye-catching looks. Just last month, the pair dressed up as Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson for Halloween.
And when the couple got engaged in January 2022, they sported matching chrome manicures. They even rocked matching pink hair over the summer.

The “Bloody Valentine” singer stepped out onto the American Music Awards red carpet with an ensemble that caught everyone’s eye.
Kelly is no stranger to bold looks, and this time he really hit the nail on the head with a completely purple suit that was decked out in extremely long silver spikes. He donned stud-embellished black combat boots and accessorized with a silver chain necklace and earrings to tie his whole look together.
Although the singer’s outfit was a major statement on the red carpet, as he accepted his award, Kelly did admit to the crowd that the two-piece made it hard to use the bathroom, stating, “This suit is really uncomfortable to pee in.”
The singer is no stranger to going above and beyond with his daring fashion looks. On Oct. 25, MGK attended the Time100 Next Gala where he donned a latex-lined see-through corset with black latex sleeves and pants to match, all seemingly inspired by Game of Thrones. He shared the look on his Instagram, writing, “I came for the Targaryen BDSM party.”
Last night, MGK took the American Music Award home for Favorite Rock Artist. He posted the moment on his Instagram account and captioned the post, “I’m not a tourist, I’m a rocket man…see you on mars motherfxckersss 🚀🥹💜🙏🏻 @amas THANK YOU TO MY LOYAL FAMILY WHO VOTED US “FAVORITE ROCK ARTIST”
This marks the second time the singer has been named with the honor after winning the award in the same category at last year’s show. MGK was also up for Favorite Rock Album-which was a new category this year-for his latest release, Mainstream Sellout. The award ultimately went to Ghost’s album Imper.
